Taped! by Rocktape!

When was it in style on using the elastic therapeutic tape by athletes or by ordinary people? Perhaps it is being used in the hospital by physical therapists without us knowing that taping can be also beneficial to athlete’s performance especially if they have an injury, swollen, tender or soreness muscles.  According to history, the popularity of therapeutic tape happened in 2008 Beijing Olympic when USA donated 50,000 rolls to 58 countries and being seen applied in the athletes who participated.

Philippine National Museum and Beyond

How many of us have ever been visited our National Museum? I've been to many museums in our country and in some foreign museums but I must confess, I am one of those who have not been to our National Museum.

I once watched on television the GMA7's TV documentary about National Treasures. I thought to myself, why I haven't visited the National Museum of the Philippines ever? Curiosity got me and I told myself that one day I will  go and check what's inside. Opportunity came when the National Museum administration announced that for the whole month of October, the museum will be  open to public for FREE. This opportunity should not be missed.

On October 26, 2012, I visited the National Museum of the Philippines and the Luneta which I discovered for the first time that there was a big Magellan's statue in the park (lol!) and the actual execution site Dr. Jose P. Rizal. (pasens'ya, tao lang. limitado ang kalaalaman sa sariling bayan, hahaha!)

Livestrong Day Philippines: Believe in Life

In the Philippines, cancer is the third leading cause of death. Yet there are very little cancer prevention programs or consciousness programs. What does this mean? With little awareness or concern, for your relative, friend, officemate or you, this may mean, recognizing it too late, diagnosing too late or less chances of surviving. In the Philippines, cancer survival rates are low.

Team Philippines Benefitting LIVESTRONG works to change these facts because we know we live in a society where change can easily be done. But we just need your support. In our society, spreading knowledge is about creating the numbers, coming together as one group of individuals who empower each other, and demand change.  Think about your friend or family member, or that story you heard from someone else – those people who have faced cancer, are fighting cancer or whose lives were forever changed by cancer. They are the people we are coming together for.

Who is Angelo Ortiz?

I had no plan of going out on a gloomy Saturday. It's nice to just stay at home but I need go out to register for KOTR. So, I get up and pulled my butt in the bed and went to Greenbelt 3 where the nearest store of adidas is located. After I registered, I feel hungry. I was craving for lutong bahay and I end up in Sentro. I tried their vegetable kare-kare. It was good but the bagoong was  slightly overcooked ;) hehehe! But over all the food was fairly good.

I was so full and decided to take a walk for a couple of minustes. My legs brought me to G5. I heard a live music playing inside the mall. It was not an ordinary music we usually hear, it was a symphony concerto. I saw a guy on the middle at the piano and on his side were the wind symphony orchestra players. I stopped for a moment to watch and listen, anyway it's free. I took a couple of pictures of the show. I finished the whole performance together with a few people who love classical music. I would not be surprised why I love watching them. Music runs in the family. I have a sister who's a graduate of BS Music. Anyway, she used to perform in front of us especially if my deceased lola requested for her favorite classical music "Poet and Peasant" by Franz von Suppe. (don't you miss playing this sister? :-)

Run! Jump! Make Noise! on Feb. 26!

The Don Bosco group of schools have been part of the landscape of Philippine education since the 1950’s. Their very strong advocacy for the youth is what makes the school stand-out and stand still after 60 years.
In celebrating the Salesians presence in the Philippines and all the good they have seeded, there will be a simultaneous Fun Run in six (6) areas :
  • Quirino Grandstand, Manila
  • Nuvali, Laguna
  • Clark, Pampanga
  • San Jose, Nueva Ecija
  • Naga City
  • Legazpi City
Gunstart will also be simultaneous at 6:00AM on February 26, 2012. The Fun Run, dubbed from Don Bosco’s famous adage, “Run, Jump, Make Noise: Celebrating 60 Years of Don Bosco’s Presence in the Philippines” is a fundraising activity to create a trust fund for the eight (8)Don Bosco Technical -Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centers.
The TVET centres are the main advocacy of the Don Bosco schools. It trains and forms the marginalized youth into able, upstanding citizens and allows them to be in the workforce of the technically-skilled. Their employability rate is in the 90 percentile with car manufacturers, technical offices, and more. On top of free education for these out of school youths, Don Bosco also provides their basic needs such as food, shelter, clothing, as well as hospital care when need be. Forming a boy into an upstanding adult is not easy, nor is it inexpensive. But it is an advocacy worth pursuing for it is essentially an advocacy for life and in this case… of lives.

Let's Run with Piolo!

I was fortunate to get invited to Timex Run 2012 blog and press con. The last time Timex Run had their event was in 2009.

Piolo and Coach Rio

Timex is one of the premier races here in the Metro. Last 2009, I was there to support as pacer and photographer to my friend who did her first pikermi. I remember back then when we were in our way back to Kalayaan flyover, we hear the siren and in a few minutes here it was, Piolo running his first official 10k and Coach Rio was beside him. That day, the sub-Piolo born. Piolo's time in Timex 2009 made as a benchmark by a lot of runners. Until now, his time is still a benchmark.

At the presscon, Piolo admittedly that he was pressured when he learned that a lot of runners made his time as a benchmark. He wasn't sure if he can beat his personal best this year but he will try :) For Piolo, running is a lifestyle. He is also into multisport. This year he is set to do the bike leg in Cobra IM 70.3 in Cebu. He is also be doing his first full marathon this year. Where? I know and it is in my bucket list also.

Why you don't wanna missed the Timex Run? You will get a chance to run with Piolo side by side. You will have a chance to push yourself to do better. You'll get a chance to win a TIMEX watch and a lot more!

Get a chance to win Timex watch

So, Let's run with Piolo this Sunday!

Personal message of Piolo to yours truly =)

Better Bones Project ~

What is this Better Bones Project?

A group of individuals whose most of the founders are from aNR-BHS Storm Chasers. A group coming from different industries who wants to make a difference for the common good for our country. This group of individuals believes that for us to have a better country, every child should have the right to be given a chance to live a better life and live their dreams. But how can a child live a better future if a child doesn't have physical strength to achieve those dreams? Better Bones Project born. The project aims to help orphanages with their milk requirement, which is not included in their monthly budget, even for a month.

The Better Bones Project was put together with the goal of providing orphanages with milk supply to sustain the daily needs of a growing child. One 2.2kg of milk can provide 65 kids with a daily glass of milk. This project aims to raise 45 cans of milk each month for a specific orphanage beneficiary. But more importantly, we would like to find donors that will sustain at least a can of milk each month for these orphanages.

For the month of January, the group choose Asociacion de Damas de Filipinas,Inc. in Paco, Manila for their first try to raise the much cans of milk they needed.

The Asociacion de Damas de Filipinas, Inc. was founded on September, 1913. In 1919, Settlement House was established and had its first site on a building at Avenida Rizal St., Manila. It was used as a temporary shelter to indigent aged widows and orphans. Services to care of babies and small children were extended. In 1925, settlement house permanent site was established at 815 Canonigo St. Paco, Manila, now known as 1451 Pres. Quirino Ave., Paco, Manila.

Settlement House

With this, the group would like to seek for any kind of help from your kind heart. Let us open our hearts to fill these orphanages with happier and healthier kids.

You are also invited to join the Better-Bones-Project during the orphanage visits to cheer up these abandoned children.

For your donations, please contact Mark Leonard Manalo at +63 908 6491981 and
