One Year of Tri-ing

FlyingBoar is one year in Tri-ing. Three tri-ing distances in one year.

1. Animo Mini-Sprint Tri, June 12, 2010
(400m-11.6km-2.5km)

1st Timers: Me, Tiff, Emil, Wilnar and Doc Marvs ~

at the bike leg, look how funny I was then. I am look like a roaming police, hahaha! I used a borrowed MTB with sleek tire.

time saving, ready for run part, hahaha! ~

I fully understand the word "brick" after the bike leg. I felt my quads heaviness and a side stitch in the run leg.

2.5km run ~

Lesson learned: Get a road bike =)

2. ITU Subic Int'l. Triathlon (SubIT) Olympic Standard, May 31, 2011

I placed my self in front of the packed even though I am not a faster swimmer. I want to gain the confidence by seeing how far we have to swim. While waiting for the gun start, I was talking to my self saying "you can do it carina. you swam half of the course before. you recon the beach. don't mind the jelly fish just finish the swim"

1.5km open water swim ~

oh the uphill! mind game. Don't give up on the uphill.

40km bike and still smiling ~

Relieved. 10km run and I am finish with my first olympic standard. Seeing my team in every loop of the course gave me strength and smile in my face.

10km run ~

Lesson learned: don't place yourself in front of the packed if your not a fast swimmer. you don't want to be kicked and punch in the face, hahaha! and more saddle time especially in the uphill.

3. Animo Sprint Tri, Sprint Distance, June 12, 2011

At first i have no plan of doing the Animo Tri since it was just a month and a half after Subit but again since this will be my first year anniversary in tri, i decided to go for it.

I am happy with my swim split here. I am more comfortable with my pace. I know i can push it more but i don't want my hrm to go up.

900m *

The ocho-ocho loops in AAV was a tough course. You have to deal the uphill of CCD many times. You can feel the burning of your legs. Some may find their way in a wrong turn, got lost or lack of loop in this route. Good thing our team did make a point that we recon every race route we will be doing before the race day.

30km ^

A felt a weird pain in my right upper knee after I got off my bike. I thought cramps will attacked me but it's not. First time i felt it. I tried to massage it to ease the pain but it wouldn't go. I can feel at that point it was swollen. The pain last for 3 days after the race day.

7km #

Beat Your Own Pace: Mizuno Infinity Run

In 2009, the Mizuno Infinity Run introduced an idea of a time trial when it started the “Beat Your Own Time”.

In 2011 it has returned with a greater challenge for all runners out there. Mizuno shall have its first 21K course,

replacing the 15K distance. This seeks to answer the runners’ demand for a longer, and a more challenging distance. Mizuno Infinity Run 2011 presents the “Beat Your Own Pace” wherein distance shifters (from a lower to a higher distance) who are able to beat their previous race’s pace will be rewarded with a Mizuno Prestige Card.

For same distance runners, they are also given the chance to win a medal if they are able to beat their own pace from the previous year.

Another reasons why you don't want to missed the 2011 Infinity Run.

Multisport 101: Swim.Bike.Run. You Tri.

Three years ago, I never thought i will love the sport of running. I tend to join road races almost every week but when I already achieved my goal of doing long distance running, I look for more that will also compliment with it.

Sometime ago in Takbo.ph we have a weekly schedule of swim session. It's part of our cross training but when we frequently doing it that's the time I decided to do an Aquathlon for a change.

After doing two Aquathlons last year, triathletes friends encourage me to do the Animo Triathlon of the same year. I said, I don't have a bike yet but a triathlete friend lend me her MTB bike. Yes, you can use mountain bike for your first tri. Any bike you are currently riding will work just fine. It can be a road bike, mountain bike or hybrid. Many people have completed their first triathlon on a borrowed bicycle just like me :) But make sure the bike is fitted for you and not a rotten one. A borrowed MTB with a sleek tire was my first bike to use in my first ever triathlon. But after experiencing the Animo triathlon, I decided to buy my own bike last July, 2010 and did my first Duathlon.

Aquathlon is a combination of Swim-Run or sometimes Run-Swim-Run.

Duathlon is an athletic event that consists of a running leg, followed by a cycling leg and then another running

2nd Leg Powerade Duathlon 2010

Triathlon is a multi-sport event involving the completion of three continuous and sequential endurance events.[1] While many variations of the sport exist, triathlon, in its most popular form, involves swimming, cycling, and running in immediate succession over various distances.
